On 13 May 2026 the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs approved the Ahmedabad (Sarkhej)–Dholera Semi High-Speed Rail project. It is a double-track line of about 134 km costing roughly ₹20,667 crore, designed for 220 km/h and planned to operate at 200 km/h, with completion targeted for FY 2030-31. Approval is not construction. We could not verify the station list or the exact alignment relative to Kasindra, so property seekers Near Dholera SIR should ask for the alignment map before relying on the project.
What the Cabinet Approved
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs approved the Ahmedabad (Sarkhej)–Dholera Semi High-Speed Rail Project at an estimated cost of about ₹20,667 crore on 13 May 2026. The line is described as a 200 km/h corridor that will add about 134 km to the Indian Railways network.
The Ministry of Railways calls it the first semi-high-speed rail project of Indian Railways to use indigenously developed technology. It falls under the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan, and its stated objective is to improve multi-modal connectivity and logistics efficiency and to boost the development of Dholera SIR.
The Route
The line starts at Sarkhej in Ahmedabad and runs to Dholera. Reports say it will provide faster connectivity between Ahmedabad, Dholera SIR, the upcoming Dholera Airport and the Lothal National Maritime Heritage Complex. One summary adds that the corridor will have a 70 km elevated viaduct and a design speed of 220 km/h.
Speed and Travel Time
The design speed is 220 km/h, while the operating speed is planned at 200 km/h. One report says the Sabarmati–Dholera travel time will come down to 48 minutes. Treat this as a planning figure. Actual times depend on stops, timetables and final design.
Cost and Timeline
Reports agree on the cost of about ₹20,667 crore. On timing, the Chief Minister’s office and other reports say the project is targeted for completion by 2030-31. That is roughly four to five years from now. Earlier summaries described a construction period of about four years from approval, so check the latest official statement for the date.
Large rail projects usually move through several stages after approval: detailed surveys, land acquisition, tendering, award of contracts, construction and trials. Delays at any stage push the opening date out.
How Many Stations?
Reports differ. One summary lists 14 stations, while another source we saw earlier mentioned 13. We could not find an official station list. Do not rely on any “station near your plot” claim until you see the official alignment and station plan.
Rail, Road, Air and Freight: Four Different Projects
It helps to keep the projects separate:
- The semi-high-speed passenger line is approved and targeted for FY 2030-31.
- The Ahmedabad–Dholera Expressway is a 109 km road that is reported to have opened for public use in 2026.
- Dholera International Airport has a target of year-end 2026 launch, according to a 16 October 2026 report. Treat that as a target until the aviation regulator confirms operations. Our airport and expressway update tracks the road and the airport.
- Freight rail is separate. The Western Dedicated Freight Corridor serves goods trains, and a Bhimnath–Dholera freight line is described as proposed.
Each project has its own timeline, so one delay does not necessarily affect the others.
What This Means for Kasindra Buyers
Dholera Estates 1 is in Kasindra village, near the Dholera SIR. It is not inside the SIR boundary. Our guide to Kasindra vs Dholera SIR explains what that means for planning rules.
We have not verified how close the rail alignment or any station will be to Kasindra. Before you factor the rail line into a purchase decision, ask for:
- The official alignment map, with Kasindra’s location marked on it.
- The nearest planned station, and the road distance from the plot.
- The access road between the plot and that station.
- The expected opening year, with the source for it.
If the answer is vague, treat the rail line as a general regional context, not as a feature of the plot.
A Realistic Way to Think About the Timeline
A completion target of FY 2030-31 is useful for planning, but it is not a promise. A sensible approach is to ask what happens to your plans in three cases:
- The line opens on time. Access to Ahmedabad improves, and the region may become more practical for daily travel.
- The line opens late. The expressway and local roads stay your main links for longer.
- The line is delayed significantly. You should be comfortable holding the plot without it.
None of these outcomes tells you what plot prices will do. Prices depend on local demand, jobs, access and many other factors.
What to Watch Over the Next Year
- Announcements of detailed project reports and alignment finalisation.
- Land acquisition notifications along the route.
- Tender invitations and contract awards.
- The start of construction on the first sections.
- Station locations and design announcements.
Each of these is a concrete milestone you can verify. Our documents checklist helps you check the plot itself while you watch the project.
How to Verify Rail Updates
- Check official releases from the Press Information Bureau and the Ministry of Railways.
- Look for notifications from the Government of Gujarat and the agency building the line.
- Treat news reports as pointers, and look for the official source behind them.
- Visit the area and compare the plan with what you see on the ground.
